Su Samuels has always had an eye for fashion; it later developed into something more when she started designing and sewing pieces for family and friends.
“It’s my natural high, I love making stuff for people and seeing their reaction when they try something on and feel good about themselves, there is nothing better”
Su then decided to enter the Agricultural Show in the recycled and fabric paint category and she won both categories. The following year she entered the show again and came second in the ‘natural elements’ category.
Su then started her contemporary masi gown designs when she was approached to design for pageant contestants in 2010. She has steadily grown her clientele for masi bridal wear as well.
In 2015, she launched her professional career as a designer with her maiden bridal collection called ‘Rairai Vinaka’ at Fiji Fashion Week.
Su who is an accountant by day then started her fashion brand ‘LavaLani’ named for her two older daughters Ailava and Noelani.
Su is a mother of 2 boys and 3 beautiful girls. Su is also a recent graduate from APTC with the Certificate III in Applied Fashion and Design. LavaLani stocks at House of Design Suva and she’s set to launch her Ready to Wear collection soon.
